These 3 Chorale Preludes are termed "descending" because they are intended to illustrate a "descent" from JSB. The first piece is firmly steeped in Bach apart from a couple of derailments. The second is still similarly embedded in places but less so, and the third still less. The 3 pieces are very loosely linked to classical chorale or anthem tunes, actually a superimposed consideration effected by a superannuated composer. Dynamics have been left out but not interpretive markings. The latter are an essential part of the composer's creative process, serving as much as a scrutiny tool in the never ending and hopeless pursuit of perfection, as an interpretation guide.
