These 3 Chorale Preludes are termed "descending" because they are intended to illustrate a "descent" from JSB. The first piece is firmly steeped in Bach apart from some eccentricities or quirks. The second is still similarly embedded in places but less so, and the third still less. The 3 pieces are very loosely linked to classical chorale or anthem tunes, actually a superimposed consideration. Dynamics have been left out but not interpretive markings. The latter are an essential part of the composer's creative process, serving as much as a scrutiny tool in the never ending and hopeless pursuit of perfection, as an interpretation guide.
