Misc. Notes Afterword was especially composed to end a charity concert of music and readings associated with Magna Carta. Most of the music consisted of vocal works which were probably sung during the week of the charter’s signing-with-a-seal. The poet Caroline Heaton writes: “Afterword is written in the form of questions, rather than exhortations or ‘information’, and is couched in very simple language, which leaves the audience free to reflect.”
