This Swedish firm has been independent for over 200 years.
Musikaliska Magazinet was established as a music shop in 1802 by Pär Aron Borg and started publishing in 1804. In 1874, Julius Bagge purchased the music shop and merged it with his own publishing business. The Carl Gehrmans name was used from 1892 when he bought the business. Its catalog was mainly popular at the time: salon music for voice and piano, and choral music.
A new phase began in 1930 when Gehrmans was bought by Inge and Einar Rosenborg. In addition to popular music, many serious works by important Swedish composers of the mid-century such as Lars-Erik Larsson (1908–1986), Hugo Alfvén (1872–1960) and Dag Wirén (1905–1986) were published. In 1943, the firm bought Abraham Hirsch.
