Bagge's wife, the pianist Justine Wendelstadt (1825–1908) was the daughter of Carl Friedrich Wendelstadt (1786–1840), a famous artist.
Hermann Levi (in a letter to Brahms from 1865-10-06) was convinced, and Brahms agreed, that Bagge, along with Reinecke, was responsible for Breitkopf's refusal to publish his Op.36 sextet.
