Deutsch began composing at age 12. His primary influences include Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, Mahler, Mozart, and Bartók, but he has also written Jazz, Ragtime, Klezmer, Flamenco, Gamelan, Trance, and Experimental. He was a National Merit Scholar and varsity jazz band first chair guitarist in high school, and received a degree in physics and mathematics from the University of South Florida. He graduated top of his class from the United States Navy nuclear program and belongs to the International Society for Philosophical Enquiry, the oldest IQ network at the 99.9th percentile. He has also published a book on the selective pressures that competing psychological preferences have put on philosophical concepts.
