According to biographical notes by J. Joubert, Henri Gouard, born in Auxerre, studied in the Conservatoire de Paris under Duprato, Lavignac, Marty and Pugno; he received a first prize for composition in 1900. A prolific composer he is (around 1912) music teacher and organist of the St-Pierre church in Auxerre.
