Eduard Herrmann studied violin at the Stuttgart conservatoire from 1861-8, then in Berlin 1869-70 (vl Joachin composition Kiel). He was a concertmaster at various locations in Germany and also St. Petersburg 1871-81. In 1881 he emigrated to New York, where he formed a string quartet with
Lilienthal, Hauser and Schenck.
