Detailed biography: Derek Hibben is a composer, conductor, and violist born in 2005. Since starting on the viola at the age of eight, Hibben has had many experiences with orchestral, chamber, and solo works. His knowledge of these genres has enabled him to compose and, eventually, conduct. At the age of 15, Hibben started his own chamber orchestra to gain baton experience and to play the music of underrepresented composers such as Joseph Bologne and Florence Price. At the age of 17, he conducted a professional ensemble for the first time, kick-starting him on the path to becoming an orchestral conductor.
