John Christian Luther (? — May 1789)
"Mr. Luther, tho' born in England, is of German extraction. His musical education has been sound and regular, he having past the usual time allotted for boys in the King's Chapel, a few years with Mr. Gates, and the remaining time with Dr. Nares. Luther's voice having settled to a good tenor bass, he was admitted to officiate as deputy for one of the Gentlemen of the Chapel Royal ... Mr. Luther teaches the harpsichord, and has a very neat touch on that Instrument; his compositions are not numerous, but the few that have reached our inspection do him credit." - The European Magazine, and London Review, Vol.5, 1784.
