Like his contemporaries such as Fritz Spindler (1817—1905), Gustav Lange (1830—1889), Cornelius Gurlitt (1820—1901), and Franz Behr (1837—1898) he was a prolific composer mainly of educational piano works, from Op.1 in 1863 to Op. 445 in the 1890s. A typical title was Jugend-Erinnerungen, Op.283 (1882). He also wrote some songs and violin works.
