Caecilia, Utrecht, 15 September 1860 issue -- Obituary: gives his age at death as 80. Most sources however agree he was born in Silesia ca.1790 and agree with the obituary he died in Bordeaux in 1860. Louis Vidal in his Les Instruments a archet, Paris 1878 gives Schaffner's birth date as 1779.
