Born and raised in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Ed Witt (b. 1991) began his musical endeavors by taking piano lessons at The Pittsburgh Music Academy in his childhood. Later taking up the Trumpet and Percussion, he frequently performed in many of the ensembles within the Mt. Lebanon School District, which is recognized nationally for its superior fine arts programs. He began arranging and composing for several of these groups by his Junior year, namely the highly decorated Mt. Lebanon High School Percussion Ensemble. Several of these works have received national publication by C. Alan Publications. Currently under the guidance of Nancy Galbraith, his work attempts to tell stories through colorful, lush harmonies and memorable melodies. With his knowledge and performance experience on many different instruments, his primary goal is to write idiomatically and effectively for every part, creating an experience that is both enjoyable for an audience to listen to as well as fun for the performers to play.
