| Extra Information
|
Performed with RV 540, 149 and 552 for Prince Friedrich Christian of Poland and his musicians. There are no trumpets in this piece. The solo violins in this piece are instructed to imitate the sound of a marine trumpet (trombe marina) which was not a brass instrument, but a large bowed instrument and one string with a very buzzy tone. Vivaldi "adapted" some violins owned by the Pieta for roles like this by attaching pieces of metal to the bridge which would rattle on the body of the instrument. There are 3 solo concerti for this instrument by Vivaldi.
