| Extra Information | Piano accompaniment duplicating the sharp 11th harmonic (F) in 1st horn part, and mordents written on lower harmonics (C and G) in 2nd horn part, both suggest that natural horns should be used with hand stopping, rather than true hunting horns.
Publication date is 3 years later than Ravel's Pavane pour une infante défunte with its tune for cor simple in G, which is widely quoted as being the last piece in the continuous tradition of writing for natural horn. Anneke Scott and Julio Blanco performed it with pianist Silvia Carrera as an encore at their recital in Santander in February 2022 - possibly the first time it has been heard on natural horns for 100 years. |
