In 2000 I connected a microphone to my computer and recorded my daughter and myself talking, directly into Finale, recording the MIDI data not the analog data. The result was that Finale interpreted it into notes, rhythms, and dynamics. The result was bizarre since all natural sounds have overtones and even amient noises were picked up and interpreted also. Then I assigned MIDI instruments, graphic pitchwheel alterations, and channels to Finale expressions and applied them to the score. This amounts to my treating Finale and MIDI as independant instruments, not as tools for instruments. Thus, my expression choices are my performance of the MIDI-generated notes. The result is general chaos and ridiculous sounds. I did very little to make the score readable since individual notes and rhythms are irrelevant. You can just make out most of the MIDI instrument assignments and the Pitchwheel applications. Use of the Pedal added some interest. Adding interest also was my use of Channel 10 -- the MIDI channel that contains numerous percussion instruments assigned to various notes.
