Navigation etc.
I wrote this when I was working in California and had only a score book and pencil. This piece contains numerous 12-tone rows, but uses them statically and melodically and not structurally. It also contains a scale that spans more than an octave. There are numerous quotes, most obviously "O God, Our Help in Ages Past". Also found are these: "Jack and Jill Went Up the Hill"; "Oh Dear, What Can the Matter Be?"; "Reveille"; "Yankee Doodle"; a harmony line from "Saturday, in the Park" by Chicago; the coda from a Antonio Carlos Jobim piece off the Wave album; snippets from Charles Ives's "Three Places in New England"; and "A Hunting We Will Go".
