Extra Information Dramatic cantata or chamber opera. Erwachen is a dramatic cantata intended for concert or staged performance. The accompaniment could be taken by a small orchestra or instrumental ensemble. The text belongs to Stramm’s allegorical drama of 1914-15 to which it adheres closely, with some omissions and a slight re- ordering. Some of Stramm’s many stage directions have been incorporated into the role of a narrator, the Wortkünstler (Word Artist), evoking the evangelist of a baroque passion setting.
