Le Opere di Antonio Vivaldi, Vol.IV No.3, Tomo 490 Milano: G. Ricordi & C., 1970. Plate P.R. 1165.URTEXT EDITION This "urtext" or "scholarly" (scientific) edition was published at least 25 years ago in the EU (or 20 years ago in Italy, before 1996 in the former USSR). Such editions are also public domain in Canada because they fail to meet the minimum 'threshold of originality' to qualify for copyright as an 'adaptation'. They may not be public domain elsewhere. According to Federico Maria Sardelli, in his book Vivaldi's Music for Flute and Recorder (Ashgate 2007), this sonata "would appear to be an adaptation for flute, made in England, of a work for violin attributable either to Vivaldi or to Bigaglia -- or, alternatively, a collage in which 'authentic' portions of music by one of these composers have been joined to other portions that are the handiwork of the anonymous transcriber. The preservation of the work in only one source makes further deductions impossible, but even if it should be shown at a future stage that this manuscript is based on an authentic Vivaldi sonata, it clearly represents a corrupted version of the parent work."
