Extra Information This piece is a short and effective overture reminiscent of Shelley’s story from Victor Frankenstein’s perspective: the work of building and failing his creature (bars 1-11), the horror once it’s alive (12-19), the desperation to find the creature after it fled (20-35), the negotiations with the creature in Mer de Glace shortened to Victor’s eventual refusal and destruction of the female creature (36-42), the doom of Victor’s family (43-49), the pursuit to the Arctic (50-55), and finally Victor’s weakened state (55-59) and death (60). The later orchestral version is slightly longer as it includes a new first statement of the main theme, without counter-melodies.
