The Irmen thematic catalogue lists this work as a fugue in C-sharp minor, with printed incipit also in C-sharp minor. However, the subject is identical, except for notes that would be altered due to the different key signature. This page assumes for now that the original key was actually G-sharp minor and that the catalogue incipit's key signature was copied in error, since the melodic contour makes more sense in G-sharp minor, also evidenced by the contour of the 2nd voice's subject statement beginning in bar 3.
