F major is the key of the simplified version by Carl Wagner @ LoC . It seems possible or even likely that the original score had a more "difficult" key (E major, F♯ major, for instance :) )

Version for piano solo published in 1856 by Schott; for piano duet in 1878 also by Schott (at this point called Galop bacchique).
