History

This firm was founded in Frankfurt am Oder in 1885 by Georg Bratfisch and published music for domestic use: songs, piano pieces, and violin pieces. Its output was considerable, for example Hofmeister's Monatsberichte lists 60 works for 1899 alone. Georg Bratfisch Verlag was still operating in 2003 at least, but has moved to Kulmbach since 1925 or 1926. They also published an edition of most of Beethoven's piano sonatas, edited by Alexander Winterberger, in 1925 (see: Monatsbericht (1925), p.249 and also page 250- [probably] a republication of the edition published by Leipzig, Bibliographische Anstalt Adolph Schumann, given that Winterberger had been dead for a decade by then.)

The main composers are largely forgotten today: Carl Bratfisch (possibly a relative of the founder), Paul Blumenthal (1843-1930), and Fritz Wenzel.
