Movement 2 of the "Grand Quintette" may have at one point been a separate piece of music, as a different manuscript of what appears to be an earlier version of the 2nd movement titled "Adagio. 2° Fantaisie-Quintette, pour piano, 2 violons alto et violoncelle. E. Lalo." exists, with several differences of varying degrees from Movement 2 of the "Grand Quintette" score. (I use the word "earlier" because the score entitled "Grand Quintette" has the words "Copie, mais avec corrections autogr." written in pencil.)
According to Presto Music's page for the CD "Lalo: Chamber music for piano and strings" (which contains the only recording of the Quintet), Lalo wrote to Ferdinand Hiller in November 1862 that he was "finishing an Adagio and Allegro for piano and string quartet", and that in December "I'll have a Piano Quintet Fantaisie, performed in a concert on February 13, should it be a success, it will be published this winter, otherwise I’ll keep it in my stash.". However in December 1873, he wrote to Arthur Pougin that he wrote 2 quintets that were still unpublished.
The violinist Dorian Lamotte (who recorded the quintet in the aforementioned CD, and who has spearheaded the piece's promotion) has made an engraved score and parts of the Grand Quintette, and has kindly made it freely available on his website "Lamotte Violin School" as linked above (though there is no clear date of publication).
