Hawkes' Photo-Play Series

  • With the exception of no.95 the complete piano-conductor scores and parts for large orchestra are on IMSLP.

History

  • This series consisted of at least 96 compositions (possibly up to 120) intended for use as accompaniment for silent movies and was issued by Hawkes & Son from 1922 to 1927 (possibly 1928). The compositions were published as parts for a typical theater orchestra with a piano-conductor score. Arrangements for piano solo were simultaneously published in a series of volumes with six compositions per volume (this entry suggests 20 volumes were issued).
