The stops indicated are those that appear in other organ works by Amadeo. The “Hymn to St. Maurice”, which likely aspired to be adopted as the patronal anthem, was composed in 1843 by the young Gaetano Amadeo (who had recently been admitted to the Philharmonic Academy of Bologna under the patronage of Gioacchino Rossini). It was intended for performance during the festivities scheduled for November 26, the anniversary of the death of Blessed Leonardo Casanova da Porto Maurizio, coinciding with the unveiling of Leonardo Massabò’s *The Miracle of Blessed Leonardo in Corsica*, the first of the large paintings destined for the altars of the new Church of St. Maurice, which had been consecrated five years earlier. The music accompanies a short Latin text attributable to the local man of letters Gustavo Strafforello (Porto Maurizio, 1818–1903), which translates as follows: “As we sing the glory of the martyrs of the Theban Legion, the Saint who gave our town its name and location defends it as his own stronghold.”
