| Extra Information | According to Grove Music, this anthem was written in 1902 for the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra and revised in 1911 for use in the coronation of George V. The Hyperion recording notes (link below) say the introduction was completely rewritten in version B. Worldcat's sources give an estimate of 1902 (or 1903) for the publication date of "The form and order of service recommended for use in the churches of the Church of England throughout His Majesty's Empire on Thursday, 26th June, 1902, being the coronation day of their majesties King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.", the publication in which the first version of "I was glad" appeared. |
