This page contains the detailed upload guide for the DKB project. This guide is written for the structure of the upload logs from 2015 onwards, but the main concepts can be also applied for upload logs until 2014.

Choose a scan that has not yet been reviewed or uploaded to IMSLP. These scans are marked with the status To review in the yearly upload logs. Tip: Newer scans generally have better quality; we recommend prioritizing these first.
Once selected, update the log entry status to {{DKB-Status|in progress}}: In progress. Optionally add your username as a second parameter: {{DKB-Status|in progress|Username}}: In progress (by Username).
Before proceeding, verify that the scan is in the public domain. While scan entries added after 2015 have been pre-checked during list creation, and some DKB scans contain a public domain disclaimer on the first page, a detailed copyright check remains essential.
Key requirement: Determine the year of death for all relevant persons, including the composer, arrangers, editors, authors of original texts, and translators. In many cases, the corresponding persons are listed in the Composer / Librettist column (often with a link to the person category page on IMSLP). Also use the [Show all] option to display all persons associated with this scan.
Rules to determine public domain status:
If the work is not in the public domain: Mark the entry with the status {{DKB-Status|non-pd}}: Non-PD and proceed to the next scan.
Works are typically listed on the composer's category page. Note that arrangements are usually added to the original composer's page, not the arranger's.
To verify if the composer page exists:
{{LinkPerson|<first name>|<last name>}} template, and
[[<work page name>|Link]], and
Examine the work page to see if the same edition has already been uploaded to IMSLP. In most cases, this means the same publisher and the same engraving, though the cover might differ.
{{DKB-Status|existing}}: Existing and proceed to the next scan.
Persons are represented on IMSLP as category pages. Create a new category page for each person associated with the scan (composer, arranger, etc.) who does not yet have a page.
Important: Search thoroughly on Category:People before creating a new page to avoid duplicate person pages. Be aware that a person may already exist under a different spelling or with an alternative name (e.g., birth name vs. stage name, or anglicized vs. original spelling).
Open the person creation page at Special:AddComposer and fill out as many fields as possible. The following fields are required:
For additional optional fields and best practices, consult Creating a new composer page in the Score Submission Guide and/or the description of the fields in the Composer Template.
Once the person category page is created, link the corresponding name in the Composer / Librettist column of the upload log using the {{LinkPerson|<first name>|<last name>}} template.
Existing work pages are shown on the composer's corresponding person category page. Work pages may be distributed across different tabs on the person category page. Default work pages appear under the tab Compositions; other tabs may include Collaborations, Collected Works, Collections With, As Arranger, As Editor, or As Librettist.
Important: Search thoroughly across all work page tabs on the composer's category page to confirm whether the work page already exists in order to avoid duplicates. Note that different editions, manuscripts, scans, typesets, and arrangements of the same piece belong on the same work page.
To create a work page, click Toolbox in the top banner menu and select Add Work. Fill out as many fields as possible. Leave fields blank if unknown. Required fields include:
The work page form does not include all fields that can be added as parameters in the work page template after the | *****WORK INFO***** line. Please add them after the creation of the work page.
|Tags= parameter.
|Tags=pieces; pf
|Extra Information= parameter.
For best practices and explanations of all fields, consult Creating a new work page for an overview and/or the detailed description of fields at General information for work page fields in the Score Submission Guide.
Once the work page is created (or if it already existed), add the link to the work page in the Page column of the DKB upload log using an interwiki link in the format [[<work page name>|Link]].
Before uploading the PDF, remove the following pages:
Tip: If removing a page would shift the page numbering incorrectly, insert a blank placeholder page to preserve the original pagination structure.
Rename the file using the following format:
[Composer Last Name], [Composer First Name] - [Work Title] - [Publisher/Edition].pdf
Wiel-Lange, Frederik Johannes - Skovblomster - Wilhelm Hansen, Plate 8473.pdf
This naming convention improves organization and makes files easier to identify.
It is recommended to extract the first page of the scan (in most cases the cover page) as a JPG file for using it as thumbnail image during Phase 6. If possible, resize the picture to approximately 1000 pixels in width.
Optionally, you may convert the scan to monochrome (black and white) if desired. Consult Image Conversion for more details.
On the work page, use the "Add File" menu to add the scan. In the menu, choose the option Add Scan for for scans made of printed scores and Add Manuscript for scans of handwritten documents. As the sub-option, choose the following (for details, consult the section Adding files in the Quick Guide to Contributing):
After selection of the sub-option, the upload form opens. For detailed explanations of all fields, refer to the Field Descriptions and Upload Form sections in the Score Submission Guide.
{{DKB|alma99128274747505763}}. Use the text view of the page to copy the value.
{{DKB-Project}} to flag that the scan was uploaded as part of the DKB project.
Note: After submission, the file may undergo copyright review before it becomes publicly downloadable. This typically takes a few days.
The upload form does not include all fields that can be added as parameters in the {{#fte:imslpfile}} template. These fields enrich the file's metadata and improve searchability.
{{LinkArr}} template.
|Arranger={{LinkArr|Nikolaj|Hansen|1855|1932}}
{{LinkTr}} template.
|Translator={{LinkTr|Heinrich|Zschalig}}
Note: These additional fields are edited directly on the work page's source code, not through the upload form.
If the uploaded file appears in the wrong position on the work page, move the corresponding file text to its correct location according to Layout of Work Pages.
Update the log entry status to {{DKB-Status|uploaded}}: Uploaded.
Congratulations! You have contributed to the DKB project by uploading a scan. Thank you for your effort! 🎕
As reference, the following table shows the status values used in the upload logs.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| To review | No work has started yet; the entry awaits review of the scan. |
| In progress | Work has started on this entry (review and/or upload); the contributor working on it can be noted in brackets, e.g. In progress (by Username). |
| Uploaded | The scan has been newly uploaded to IMSLP in the course of this project. |
| Existing | Closed: the score was already on IMSLP when reviewed. |
| Non-PD | Closed: the work was not in the public domain when reviewed. |
| Other | Closed: not uploadable for other reasons (e.g. poor scan quality, unclear licensing); reason can be noted on the entry. |
Completed = Uploaded + all three Skipped statuses.
