  • "In 1620 it was still not customary to publish lute pieces grouped according to mode, and certainly not to call these groups sonate, thus Michelangelo Galilei can be regarded as a significant figure in the history of the lute suite." Douglas Alton Smith: Michelangelo Galilei: Il primo libro d`intavolatura di liuto, München 1620, Tree Edition, Albert Reyerman, 3rd printing, 2012, Introduction.
  • The book is meanwhile a mix-up, because Albertus Werl, who will have been an early owner, added his name on the front page and handwritten pieces on pp. 8,9,10,11,12 and a second hand added handwritten pieces on pp. 7,17,19,21,23,30,31,56. These addings have to be ignored to put Galilei's 12 sonatas together. They are mentioned at the end of this table of contents.
