Navigation etc.

  • Composed by the Authoress of the Whig Convention Grand March.
  • Performed by the Military Band of the Marine Garison, the 4th of March 1841.
  • Original instrumentation unclear. On the one hand, it was written for an inauguration, and that inauguration took place on 4 March 1841, and on that occasion it was played by a military band, the assumption could be that the original instrumentation was military band. On the other hand, it was written by a lady, who might not have had any experience of military bands, so it might have been given to the bandmaster in piano score for him to orchestrate. For the moment, both piano and band tags will be listed as arrangements, and can be changed later if more information comes to light.
  • Searching for the "Whig Convention Grand March" (1840) brings that work up, but the authoress is listed as "A Lady of Maryland". WorldCat lists the author as "Lady of Maryland". She is likely to remain anonymous.
