Misc. Comments

  • Loewe wrote this when he was about 19 years old, before he left Germany to come to the United States. It is unclear what the original instrumentation was for, but according to David Jasen in his Tin Pan Alley encyclopedia, the text by Winter was part of the original. So it was for voice and something . . .
  • Went into the public domain in the United States on January 1, 2019
  • A shimmy is a type of rag-time dance.
