This piece survives in the Vaudry de Saizenay manuscript (written 1699–?) in theorbo tablature (in a minor) and in the 1716 staff edition Pièces de théorbe et de luth by Robert de Visée (in d minor). The Saizenay version preserves a strong, continuous bass line characteristic of theorbo writing, while the keyboard edition transposes and adapts textures for keyboard performance. These features suggest the work originates in the theorbo idiom, though the direction of transmission cannot be demonstrated conclusively. This guitar transcription derives mainly from the theorbo version, but includes some textures from the keyboard version.
