There is no original work per se conceived by Vivaldi as an inseparable musical set entitled Le quattro stagioni. The reference to 'The Four Seasons,' however, is made by Vivaldi himself to the first four of 12 violin concertos originally published in 1725 as Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione, Op.8, each one portraying a different season of the year.
