Sources

  • Hofmeisters Monatsberichte (used with caution, but no other A. Terschak known to have been composing and publishing at the time, and all the works listed are for Terschak’s signature medium, flute, piano (sometimes with cello.) A few works attributed to Terschak, e.g. at the Library of Congress, are solo or choral songs, also (the latter is from opus 173 below, and is so marked on its score.) Nothing to say he didn’t diversify, even if at first his music was remarkably unified in instrumentation- of the first 60-or-so opus numbers, only about 2 or 3 of those that show up in HMB - the trios opus 20 and 22 - aren’t primarily for flute and piano, whatever arrangements and alternate versions they may have. (Some have versions for flute and piano or flute and orchestra which were, at least, published at the same time. I do not presently know if a good biography exists tracking composition times, etc.- one which would make this list redundant, at that.)
  • Emil Prill - Führer durch die Flötenliteratur, Jul. Heinr. Zimmermann
  • Musikalisches Wochenblatt, other contemporary journals

Dates, publishers and plate (numbers) where available are usually the earliest ones known (to me or the person who entered that record?...)- or if better information is available, of course, e.g. evidence for date of composition, date and perhaps some brief marker as to the source of evidence, explained in more detail elsewhere here (E.g. under "Sources".) Generally, Hofmeister or perhaps Pazdirek (which has been scanned in online- haven't checked whether it lists works by Terschak but will be doing so soon), or other sources as available - for dates; for plates, library catalogs, with the caveat as usual that it is sometimes difficult to be sure that the plate number information locked down by the library catalog listing (which is often uncertain as to date) is for the same edition as the HMB entry which is in turn certain as to date (for which the library catalog is usually equally uncertain- the more we can be certain about both and publisher too, we can fill in more entries in the useful publisher plate tables.)
