  • Hofmeister's Monatsbericht (1900), p.602.
  • There are at least 4 versions of this mazurka. It originates from Balakirev's earliest (1855) version of the piano sonata. It was rewritten for the so-called Sonata No.1 (1856). An unfinished version in C major (1884) was completed and recorded by Nicholas Walker for Grand Piano (2016). The final version known as Mazurka No.5 (1900) was also used for the final version of the sonata (1905).
