This composition was proposed by Marin Mersenne for a competition with Antoine Boësset. The proposed text to be set on music was forwarded by Constantijn Huygens; after composing the music, Ban was to send his song to Marsenne, who would meanwhile have them set by Boësset. The music was dispatched the following day after reception.
