Monologue for unaccompanied double bass (Monolog za kontrabas solo, in Croatian) was composed in January of 1982 and was premiered in March of 1983 by double bassist Frano Kakarigi in the Croatian Music Institute in Zagreb (Croatia). Monologue is a divided into three sections, Allegro-Largo-Vivo , with the final eight-bar coda in tempo Andante. The piece largely uses dissonances; first section is rhythmically dynamic, making a considerable contrast with cantabile and expressive Largo; ends with subtle virtuosity of Vivo and somewhat nostalgic Coda in Andante.
