The title/opening line could possibly be derived from Guarini's pastoral tragicomedy Il pastor fido. In Scene 5, the character Amarilli utters, "O, quanto volentieri / A rivedervi i' torno." Interestingly, Handel's opera Il pastor fido, HWV 8a, based on Guarini's work, premiered in 1712 (around the same time as Pollarolo).
