The note names are read from left to right, top to bottom. Each performer plays notes, low in their register, each for a duration between 8 and 16 seconds. In an ensemble the players need not coordinate the entries of their individual notes. In a very large ensemble it may be useful to find a way of staggering the very first note for each player that takes account of the instrumental forces available.
