This piece was written for Sentieri Selvaggi for a composition competition they were doing at Il Padiglione Italia at Expo 2015, Milan. Whether by design or accident, the spreadsheet with all the judges scores was shared with the participants, and this piece came dead last out of something like 40 entries. Nonetheless, I am quite proud of it, since it reflects my coming up from the other side of a period of severe anorexia and artistic infertility. I suppose it would be too obvious to suggest that the hero-protagonist solo violin is a composer proxy? The theme of Expo 2015 was "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life". There's a recording on Soundcloud, pretty rough in audio quality but superb in musicianship. theguardian.com
