Sherman, Clay & Co.

History

This company originated as A. A. Rosenberg, a music store founded in San Francisco, California in 1853. In 1892, it was incorporated as Sherman, Clay & Co. and also entered the music publishing business around that time. Throughout the company's history, it was primarily known as a musical instrument manufacturer and retailer (mainly for pianos), and at its peak, expanded to 60 retail stores throughout the United States in the 1980s. It was active as a music publisher from the 1890s until the 1920s (at least). The company closed its last stores in 2013.
