The Fasch society lists the sonata as quadro sonata with viola instead of pasetel. However, it seems the term pasetel (bassetl, passetl, bassetto) was usually applied to a cello-like instrument, perhaps (like a violoncello da spalla or violoncello piccolo) attached to a shoulder-strap and perhaps with 5 strings. The range of the instrument in this piece does not go below the viola's low C string.
