According to Garofalo's "Frederick Shepherd Converse (1871-1940): His Life and Music", his second quartet, preceded by a string quartet in E-flat Op.3 which was premiered in January 1902, written while studying with Chadwick, and revised later in 1902 during studies with Rheinberger (and revised once more in the same year).
