| Extra Information | String Quartet No.9 (The Little One) is a short string quartet divided in five sections. An introduction, driven by a cello pizzicato, is followed by a rather indeterminate section where the melody is played by the first violin while the rest of the ensemble alternates playing a short motive of three notes, variously transposed. A more cohesive section follows, where the instruments of the ensemble acquire equal roles. The section eventually reaches a climax and ends with a single note played by the first violin. A short cello solo leads to a variation of the opening of the piece, a second short cello solo, and the final section that quietly closes the piece. |
