Misc. Comments

There are two autograph manuscript sources: D-B, bequeathed by Simon Sechter and containing only the double bass part, and GB-Lbl Add. MS 17828 (though described in the Library Catalog as an arrangement for bass and piano by Sechter (!)), containing all parts, possibly bequeathed by Vincent Novello (compare with RISM's description of D-B). My source for calling it Quintet No.2 is from the appendix of Dr. Fiona Palmer, Domenico Dragonetti in England (1794–1846) pub. by Oxford University Press. The British Library's description calls it a solo, but this is a different piece than No.2 of his Double Bass Solos (also in D minor), and it is called a quintet by both Palmer and the SBB. - Thingy Person

A quintet (his first??) for strings (same instrumentation) in B major by the composer was published by Doblinger in 2006. - ES (... actually, Doblinger published three string quintets, in B-flat, C and G minor, in 2006, 2008, 2010. How many did he write according to Palmer?? At least 26 perhaps? John Feeney edited (two different publishers) a "Quintet No.18" and a "Quintet No.26" in 2010&2013...)
