The keys of the movements – like with the other pieces of Op. 5 – were deliberately chosen to revolve about the 2 sharps of D Major with the first 3 movements each losing another sharp from D Major over E Minor to C Major and the last 3 movements regaining and losing some again from E Major over A Major, so that the last one would be in D major again.
