The 3rd suite is modern-classical (i.e. neo-classical) and scored for clarinet, horn and strings. The clarinet and horn parts are not concertant, their sound has to blend with the strings. The strings can be replaced by a string quintet or even a string quartet (all multiple stops in the suite can be - but don't have to be - played non divisi); in this case of course the players have to adjust their volume to blend well. The harmonies are quite modern. The suite consists of three movements (slow-fast-slow) that are monothematic. In the two outer slow movements the strings play muted and the atmosphere is relaxed. In the 1st movement the development makes use of some retrogrades of the thematic material. The 2nd movement (in 5/8) is rather harsh and tense. The 3rd movement is a chaconne. Digital performance using Sibelius 6 and Garritan Personal Orchestra. Score moving videos on my YouTube-channel.
