Confusion reigns from text in the music scans of this work on both the piano (score) and the solo violin parts.
First the title on both parts give the key correctly but both list the work as Opus 3. Then the piano part, at the top of the remaining 21 pages lists the work as Opus 8 (this may, in fact, be correct). Now the plot thickens...
On pages 2 through 8, the violin part informs us that this is Grieg's 3rd sonata in C minor, opus 45. This is obviously wrong, and so I checked to see if these pages agreed with the score on the piano part. Indeed, they are the same work and the two parts will perform very well together. The second movement starts in A minor, goes to it's parallel A major at letter C, then later returns to A minor at letter F. Nowhere is C minor apparent. The third movement returns to the F major title key and has some short term modulations to be sure, but the basic key remains to the end.
We are thrilled to see that this wonderful work arrived on this site with the parts compatible and performable as they are. Please do not be disturbed by printing errors in some of the text that have no bearing on the music itself.
