Op.39 was first published in the collection "Album-Beethoven. 10 Morceaux brillants pour pianoforte pour contribuer aux frais du monument de L. van Beethoven à Bonn" (read more here) as a work consisting of 2 pieces ("2 Impromptûs fugitifs") rather than the one we have here now (Monatsbericht (1842), p.21). It seems that Döhler later renounced the (other) impromptu from the opus, as afterwards (after 1843), the Tarantelle is listed as just "Op.39" and not as "Op.39 No.?", along with the impromptu concurrently never being mentioned again (last appearance: Monatsbericht (1843), p.70). The score for the Album Beethoven gives no title to the Allegro in G major, but does give the title "Tarantella" to the Presto allegramente in G minor; see this BnF score for another edition of the 2-piece opus (but note that their titles are swapped in error, and that their ordering is reversed in comparison to the original Album Beethoven). Note also that the score we have here now (the troisième édition) is an elaboration of the original.
