According to Grove Music, "An early 18th-century repertory for the French lute in Scotland is found in the Balcarres Lutebook, whose approximately 200 pieces consist of dance-tunes (often arranged from fiddle versions) and intabulations of Scottish melodies and well-known English songs such as ‘Lillibulero’ and ‘The King Enjoys his Own Again’, as well as a few French lute pieces."
