Some sources suggest that the lyricist is unknown. Others (recmusic.org) attribute the text to Treitschke.

The words are the same as with Abt's vocal Vöglein-variations Op.377, but the melody is different.

The melody here may be a folksong, so attribution to Abt seems mistaken. This should probably be moved to Folksongs. See D-Mbs Mus.ms. 4957. For Abt's setting of Wenn ich ein..., see Op.377.
